Lip Reading: Amy Tan’s The Valley of Amazement

valley of amazement

Beauty is nothing without brains. That said, I’m a huge book lover. I could spend hours in a bookstore, library or outdoor book fair. I absolutely love it.

I usually have an idea of what I’d like to read well in advance of visiting a library or bookstore, and while I do go in and grab what I’m looking for, I usually end up getting at least 2-3 additional titles.

This past weekend was no different. I decided to go to the library knowing that I’d have a nice, relaxing few days ahead and went in search of Jamaica Kincaid’s newest offering. Yes, I picked that one up, but I also peeped Amy Tan’s latest work of art, The Valley of Amazement. Amy Tan is the exquisite visionary behind The Joy Luck Club (instant classic in my mind.)

Once again, she writes about the human experience and while I’m very early in, I know that I’ll become more hooked as the pages turn.

Book cover synopsis: “New York Times bestselling author of The Joy Luck Club Amy Tan brings us her latest novel: a sweeping, evocative epic of two women’s intertwined fates and their search for identity–from the lavish parlors of Shanghai courtesans to the fog-shrouded mountains of a remote Chinese village.”

In my opinion, the best lipstick always looks better when you’re having an equally good conversation on the latest book you’ve read ;)

  1. I have a few of Amy Tan’s books. I especially like “The Opposite of Fate” which I really can relate to. Might give this one a try after I’m done with my trilogy. Recently, I’m a little obsessed with the Japanese author, Haruki Murakami. Reading the “1Q84” books now. Got hooked after I read “Kafka on the Shore”. I can highly recommend his works.
